U11 Dragons take first win in thriller

by Jason Carr

The Gazette U11 Dragons travelled south to the cauldron of Endeavour Park to battle with the Marlin Coast Rangers. With three players unavailable this was to be a real test of the squad's resolve and cohesion against a well drilled opponent.

The team played with passion and total commitment all over the park.  Wini Heatley was excellent in her new role at Left Back, bolstering an already impressive back line.

Jakob Roemerman and Josh D’arcy bustled tirelessly in the midfield.  Mitch Budge continued his good form in the midfield, and bagged a goal to round off a polished display.

Player of the Match Jay Laird was powerful in defense and attack, repelling opposition raids and launching counter attacks that led to goals.  Kale Warden once again was menacing on the left and scored a hat-trick with typical efficiency.

Che Gonsalves rounded off the scoring and continued his improvement as a right winger with great flair.

The game finished 5 – 4; the Dragons gaining their first win of the season in some style.  A reward for the efforts of all involved in the team at the club and especially for the players who have strived and worked to improve each week.

A break over the school holidays will see the Dragons refreshed and focused for the remainder of the season.  Go you Dragons!
