Reid stars in scrappy U9 affair
by Jason Carr
Eurotech Douglas Under 9 Dragons managed to secure a scrappy 2-0 win against Stratford on Saturday. Playing on a pitch that could only be described as a dust bowl with no grass and potholes all over it, the boys struggled to get the ball under control and play their normal game.
With a few missed chances by both sides the boys went into the break with the score 0-0.
In the second half the Dragons started to create more chances and Jack Carr latched on to a loose ball and fired his chance into the back of the net to make it 1-0.
Five minutes later man of the match, Jake Reid, turned his marker on the edge of the box and coolly struck the ball home to make the final score 2-0.
Special mention also goes to Nicholas Rayner and Mitch Ralston for outstanding effort.
The boys now look forward to the DUFC carnival at Cassowary grounds this Saturday where they will play three tough games against Edge Hill and two Marlin Coast teams. All welcome to come and watch - it will be a great day.
