New club grants now available

By Kerry Larsen

Sport and recreation clubs around the Douglas region have the opportunity to cash in on the latest round of funding grants made available by the State Government.

Member for Cook, Jason O'Brien, said clubs had until 25 July to apply for a share in $20 million being made available to local sport and recreation clubs to help build new or upgraded facilities.

"The Bligh Government's focus has been on rebuilding Queensland after this year's devastating floods and cyclone, but now we're moving forward and investing in a program that will benefit Queenslanders right across the state," Mr O'Brien said.

Mr O'Brien said the funding would provide for new sites to support sport and recreation participation, create new or upgrade player and officials' amenities, build new multi-purpose facilities, erect shade structures and continue with additional work to flood-effected facilities.

"The Government will allocate the full $20 million in one roll out, so we're urging groups to get their applications in as soon as possible," Mr O'Brien said.

Applicants are encourage to phone 1300 656 191 or visit www.sportrec.qld.gov.au.
