Challenge Cairns airs this Saturday

Images of Port Douglas and Cairns will be televised nationally tomorrow (Saturday) when the Cairns Airport Challenge Cairns triathlon airs on the oneHD network at 1pm.

The international sporting event, held on June 5, attracted 1500 athletes, their support networks and fans from around the world to the Cairns and Douglas regions.

And while the athletes rated the Cairns-Port Douglas cycle leg as one of the most picturesque they had competed on, complemented by picture-perfect weather, vision of the course will no doubt be a valuable tourism tool for many years to come with the event locked in for the next four years.

Keep a eye out for our local athletes, Nick Carling (number 99, wearing black) and James Long (number 339, wearing red) in the ironman distance race, which started as a sunrise 3.8km swim at Yorkeys Knob, a 180km cycle from Cairns to Port Douglas and return (twice) and the 42.2km run into Cairns Esplanade.

And if that gets you inspired to compete, entries for the 2012 Challenge Cairns are already open.
