With the course in top condition low scoring proved easy with plenty of handicap breaking scores again this week.

Rus Watkins took out the Men’s monthly medal on Tuesday with a brilliant nett 64 ahead of G Marzolo on nett 66. Wayne Dowell was third with nett 68.

Nearest the pins were Peter Lewis on 6, P Kerr on 8, George Humphries on 10, John Onto on 13 and Ian Prewett on 17.

Maurice Meth got over the line on Wednesday with 24 points to win by one shot to Brett Jurie on 23. Dennis Blake, Mikaela Goodwin and Ben Eagle all finished on 22 points.

Nearest the pins were Shona Barbour on 6 and Damien Goodwin on 8.

The Thursday ladies also played their monthly medal last week which was won by Lorraine Skinner on nett 66. Shona Barbour finished second with 67 and Lucy Giles was third with 71.

Nearest the pins went to Helen Gabour on 6, Jenni Sorensen on 8, Shona on 10, Lucy on 13 and Ellen Clarke on 17.

Over the weekend Mossman Golf Club hosted the annual Far North Queensland Championships. The battle for the men’s championships went down to the wire with two shots separating four players with nine holes to go.

State representative Steve Thompson (72, 72) held off local Peter Chrisfield (72, 73) to win by a shot. Chrisfield did however take out the closed championship for the FNQ region.

The ladies state rep Zoe Field cruised to a thirteen shot victory after rounds of 76 and 70. Local Gennai Goodwin took out the closed championship for the ladies after rounds of 83 and 76.

Other local winners included Dennis Blake (76, 86) who took out the senior men’s, Bruce Cheesman (87, 89) who took out the men’s C Grade, Shona Barbour won the ladies Division One nett with 139 and Jacque Mitchell won the ladies Division Three nett with 137.
