Suns power home in Cairns - Nicky G Sports Wrap

By Nicky G

What a fantastic buzz having a home & away fixture here in Cairns created in this city. The strong crowd of 11000 weren’t disappointed either as the Gold Coast (with Gary Ablett) produced a win over this centuries under performers – Richmond! The Tigers are young & still rebuilding but this is just another term for what they really are – useless!

Richmond supporters are also useless!! Loyal but totally useless!! Let’s face it, a side can’t be that consistently bad over 30 years where there can’t be an underlying factor! It’s gotta be the supporter base & how useless they are. I have no facts, evidence or data to back this up but it’s gotta be the useless supporters that make this team so bloody useless! What else can it be?

They’ve had numerous coaching changes, a plethora of first round draft picks & their facilities are second to none – the only thing they’ve never tweaked is to part ways with these useless supporters who seem to drag them down every season! Useless bastards!!

The Gold Coast have now won 3 games this year & that is far from useless. From all reports (no, i didn’t make it) the atmosphere was supurb & with the likes of Malcolm Blight, Mike Sheehan & kingpin Alex Demetriou mixing in the crowd, Cairns got a day of full flavoured AFL action.

Well done Cairns & maybe the dream of one day having our own team is a step closer to a reality. The only down side of the day was our very own sports editor Mathew Churchill almost ending in a biffo with Brendan Gale ; mate, as if the Richmond CEO is gonna agree that Collingwood players are hardly done by in this betting scandal!!

I think Brendan read last weeks article & declared the Cairns yearly fixture as the ‘smash a magpie supporter’ day. Cool by me! The thought of that is very amusing – the one eyed Collingwood Newport sports editor gets the first smashing on ‘smash a magpie supporter day’ by the king of the useless bastards!

This weeks winners:

-  Gold Coast; any win’s a great one for you guys.
-  Nth Melbourne; great win after last weeks belting.
-  Johnathon Brown; fearless!
-  St Kilda; here they come.

 This weeks losers:

–  Richmond ; Could be rebuilding for the next 30 years!
-   Johnathon Brown; That was brave but also stupid! The Full forward was             never far away!
-   Richmond supporters; Useless!
-   Heath Shaw; Trouble seems to find this guy!
