Rep team runner up in Cairns

by Treveen Page

The Under 12 and 14 Dolphins, the Douglas representative netball teams, traveled to Cairns last Sunday to compete in a representative carnival.

The teams looked great in their new representative dresses and  played six games of 2 x 10 minute halves.

The 14s played fantastic netball which showed all the extra training they took on paid off against the very strong Cairns and districts competitors.

The final game was against Cairns who are very experienced performers and had a number of Junior Marlins in it.  The Dolphins were 5 goals up by the 5 minute mark of the first half, but the Cairns Pythons came back to even the score over the next 10 minute.

The Dolphins steadied but a couple of crucial mistakes in the last half saw them beaten by 2 goals, but a great effort by girls nonetheless.

The 12s/U played well winning 2, drawing 1 and losing 2 games over the day - again a great effort from all the players and fantastic experience for the group.  Well done!

Sharon Beechey has trained both teams on Thursdays and Sundays leading up to the carnival so thanks for your efforts. There were many positive comments over the day as to how well our teams presented and played in a professional manner.

Thanks to Jane Gwilliams and Corrine Garland for umpiring and to Jenni Walker, Renae Mealing, Vicky Littler, Belinda Malone for taking stats and to Jodi Francis for your help over the day.
