Port Douglas junior netball results
The Douglas Junior Netball competition started with the 10/Under Diamonds playing the Tigers last Tuesday at Port courts. The Diamonds played great team netball with very nice shooting by Kalani Revel and Kyah Francis was fantastic in defence, showing great leadership on the court.
Amelia Lee for the Diamonds was excellent and Hanah Durie intercepted consistantly and turned over the ball, Jaime Thurtell showed her 2nd year experience over the game. For the Tigers Heidi Pashen was pivotal in centre getting the ball at every opportunity and giving her team a chance to goal, Carla Young was great all over the court and Tara Smith put in a confident attacking game. Final score Diamonds 5 def. Tigers nil.
On court 2 the Gladiators played the Saints in a great defensive game with many intercepts, Ebony Schonenberger showed great landing and pivoting, Jas Dodds displayed some very nice passing and Allie Siebel was great for 4 quarters. The Saints attack Kate Padovan found space on court, Kiara-Mae Gaddes is tough at the ball and made many intercepts and Jay Heidke was excellent in allpositions played. The teams were bunching up on the court but a quick pep talk by umpire/coach Aimee Watson had the girls using the court more efficiently. Final score Gladiators 2 def. Saints nil.
The 12/Under competition on court 1 saw the Crocs play Miallo, the Miallo team, many who played in the rep. carnival last Sunday were on fire passing the ball quickly and accurately, goal shooter Jade Shuck and goal attack Elle Kadwell finished off well. Lily Wicks put in some great intercepts and Georgia Duncan had a great game as goal keeper. The Crocs put in a strong game that the score does not reflect, Courtney Sophocleous put in some great plays showing confidence and talent over the game, Aleesha Viola played well in front of her opponents and made many intercepts turning the ball back to her team's goal.
Thanks to Corinne Garland and Rochelle Miller for umpiring. On court 2 the Panthers played the Sparks, Teenage Coaches Angela Pringle (Panthers) and Jade Harold (Sparks) had some friendly rivalry going on between them, putting in great effort and encouragement for their players to lift and win the game. The Panthers attack Ellie McKay put in a great game, Georgia Kelly was strong on court for 4 quarters and Shannon Lincoln was the star of the day shooting 2 great goals, Great Game. The Sparks with Tayler Miller the driving force in centre, Elkie Burnett intercepting well and Cartier Bennett in attack combined well to take the win. The game was played in great spirit and was exciting to watch. Final score Sparks 7 def. Panthers 3.
The Magic played the Allstars on court 3, Magic came out to play shooting 4 goals to 1 in the 1st quarter, Cian Dansken gaining more confidence with each game put in a great effort, Abbey Kent was fantastic in defence, Sophie O'Gorman-Petrack worked the goal circle well and shot well for goal and Sarah Rosetto and Casilda Creek combined well in the centre 3rd taking the ball to their goals. The Allstars defence worked overtime this week Mikaela Goodwin and Isabella Cattanach did a great job, Liana Pelegrinet and Rae Page worked well together taking the ball down the court to goals and Micaela Cairns put in
a great game as keeper. The game was exciting to the finish ending with a 6 all draw. Thanks for Jane Gwilliams and Chrissy Sophocleous for umpiring.
The 14s competition started with the Judamalies playing the Dynamite, the Judamalies with a couple of injured players were not their usual force but with great passing by Frankie Webster, fantastic defending by Dakota Bowen, Holly Brown played a strong goal attack. Brittany Bowen and Maddy Weaver combined well around the circle to finish for goal. The Dynamite team with great
plays by Megan Von Kieserlingk, Simone Pringle was excellent for 4 quarters, Yasmine Stievano showed great leadership over the court and Emma Stievano was brilliant in attack. The Dynamite's great team effort had them with a great win 20 goals to 7. Thanks to Alfina Tolentini and Kahlee Tesch for umpiring.
Court 2 saw the in form 12/Under Rep. team play the Vipers. The Reps. worked the court well, always setting up 2 options along the court to lead to which resulted in slick passing by Rae Page, fantastic centre pressure applied by Maddy Malone and Jade Schuck was ever consistant at goal. The team played fast paced netball. The Vipers had to rethink some of their players in positions to overcome their strong opponents Hayley Alexander was great as goal keeper along with Jess Eagle as goal defence, thanks to Marley Cairns and Emma Stievano for playing with the Vipers from the Dynamite to make up numbers.
The Vipers matched the 12 Reps. in the last half for goals but could not gain the lead. Final score 12s Rep. 10 def. Vipers 4. Thanks for Jane Gwilliams and Marta Smith for umpiring.
The Douglas Netball Junior Carnival will be held at Port Douglas Courts on Sunday the 28th August.
