If your child has complex needs due to chronic health issues, developmental delay or disability, the demands on you as a parent or carer and on your family can shift in a whole new direction and lift to a whole higher level of intensity.   

After attending to appointments, absorbing information and implementing care plans it can be hard to find time for you.  

Across Australia peer support groups called MyTime have been set up for parents and carers of children with a disability or chronic medical condition.     

MyTime is your time. MyTime members come together regularly to socialise and share ideas with other parents and carers. The program helps parents find out about available community support and meet others who understand the rewards and intensity of the caring role.  
 
With many parents in our own community in the carer role the Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre is looking to set up our own local MyTime group at its venue in Mowbray Street.

The Centre is keen to hear from parents and carers from our local area who would like to participate.
 
Funded through the Parenting Research Centre and in partnership with the Cerebral Palsy League, the Centre has employed a facilitator to coordinate the group, including providing resources and helping discussions between parents.  

Children are more than welcome to come along as a playhelper will be there to engage the children in fun and interactive activities, while parents are able to catch up and enjoy the friendly and welcoming atmosphere of the Centre.
