Emergency crews want the dirt

Finally, a chance to be lazy and charitable at the same time.

The Douglas Combined Emergency Services, consisting of members of the SES, Queensland Fire and Rescue Service, the Coast Guard, Police, and Ambulance, are running a drive-through car wash on Sunday, 30 January to raise money for flood relief efforts.

Port Douglas' QFRS Auxiliary Captain Lou Leone has called on his crew to swap fire hoses for buckets, and is urging the community to make the most of the opportunity to get to the Fire Station anytime from 9am.

"We'll be there most of the day so we want anyone who is driving past to drop in. How many times do you get a chance to drive through an actual Fire Station?" he said.

Adam Mervin-Jones from the Coast Guard will be lending a helping hand. "Every little bit helps. We're all part of the bigger picture. We just want them to know we're all thinking of them," he said.

Fellow Coast Guard member, Jeff Anderson, said "We have to wash the mud of your cars so the people can wash the mud off their houses."

So get along and say hello, and for just $5 you can get your rig sparkling. All donations will be given to the Salvation Army Flood Appeal.
