You will be heard, says Douglas Manager

Ensuring residents of the Douglas region continue to have their voices heard is at the top of the agenda for Cairns Regional Council’s new Manager for Douglas, Liz Collyer.

The role of the Manager for Douglas is to lead and manage Council's strategic direction in Douglas. Council CEO Lyn Russell announced the appointment following a competitive interview process.

“The position was initially trialled for six months and then independently reviewed. A broad cross section of stakeholders were consulted on the need for the role, and they were unanimous in their support,” Ms Russell said.

“The position was advertised nationally and attracted significant interest and a strong field of candidates. Ms Collyer was unanimously selected by a panel that included the Chair of the Douglas Advisory Board.”

Ms Collyer joined Cairns Regional Council two years ago, and during this time she has enthusiastically promoted Council's operations in Douglas creating greater community awareness of Council services.

“The Douglas community is passionate, inclusive and proud,” Ms Collyer said.

“Ensuring the voices in Douglas are included in decision making processes is an important part of my role.

“I’m passionate about community engagement and I am keen to continue the strong community links to important projects under way such as the Port Douglas Master Plan, Daintree Gateway and the Community Plan.

“These significant projects demonstrate Council's commitment to Douglas and it is my job to make sure the long history of community participation and ownership that is very much part of Douglas continues into the future.

Ms Collyer lives in Port Douglas and for the past 15 years has held senior management positions in local and state government and within the human service sector.

Prior to working in government Ms Collyer had 16 years in the private sector as a specialist in the communications and marketing industry.
