The sports wrap withy Nicky G

Wow, what a tumultuous fortnight in sport as sackings and scandals once again take centre stage!

The big Fev has almost definitely played his last game in the big league as the Lions finally ran out of patience with his off field antics. Being a Lions supporter i wasn’t alone in hoping there may be one last chance for the big fella for no other reason than the fact that we need him!

Our pre season form reeks of a club that has gone backwards due to bad decision making and maybe the former Blue could pull his head in and help us turn it around.

Not to be. Fev will go down as the worst recruit ever and every Carlton supporter gets to chant those glorious words – ‘we told you so’. Unfortunately you can’t win em’ all!.

You will notice above i said ‘almost definitely played his last’ as a veteran coach named Kevin Sheedy is back in the game and he loves this situation. If Fev can impress for 12 months in the VFL, I’ll bet his career gets one last shot. The Sheeds loves to resurrect bad boys...

But even the human highlight named Fev took a back seat this week as Ivan Henjak gets the flick from the Broncos – in very hush hush unusual circumstances.

But more to the point that 17 year old school girl once again proves you don’t have to be a muscly centre half forward to put the AFL on its knees.

Whist Fev will be kicking himself for stupid behaviour I reckon he’ll find a soul mate in player manager Ricky Nixon. Ricky’s antics could leave him in all sorts of strife but let’s let the facts come out before being too judgemental.

From what I’ve seen and heard however he’s as guilty as a puppy sitting next to a pile of poo! The culture of footy clubs and these organisations might come under the microscope once again. My god, hasn’t this girl has an axe to grind!! I wonder how many more nervous young (or middle aged) men are finding it hard to sleep right now?

And what has happened to our Taipans? I attended the Gold Coast vs NZ game on Sunday which NZ stole in double OT. Had the Blaze won it they could have knocked Cairns out of the 4 and put a huge dint in our confidence.

I’ll endeavour to find some answers now I’m back but Cairns need to get their mojo back poste haste or the whole season has been a waste. More on that next week.

With footy pre season finals, basketball playoffs and sackings and scandals all to look forward too, I’ll be back next week to give you a spicy ‘wrap’!
