No investigation for Shaolin
A Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) Transport and Main Roads spokesperson has advised that they will not be undertaking an investigation into how the popular Chinese Junk, Shaolin, sunk during Tropical Cyclone Yasi while it was secured in Dickson Inlet.
"There are no plans for an investigation into the Shaolin, which was sunk as a direct result of the recent category five Cyclone Yasi, the most intense cyclone to hit the tropical coast in memory," the spokesperson said.
The Newsport article 'Shaolin sinks in Dickson Inlet' received a number of comments from readers who have fond memories of the eye-catching vessel. It is not yet known if the Shaolin can be salvaged.
The investigation into the Haba sinking in Meridien Marina on 14 November 2010 has yet to be finalised.
"Maritime Safety Queensland is continuing investigations into the Haba 5 sinking and is unable to make further comment on that matter while the enquiry is underway," the spokesperson said.
"MSQ encourages anyone with information on sunken vessels, hazards to navigation or pollution threats to contact their local MSQ office or relevant port authority as soon as possible."
