Raiders seasons end on a high

Under 10

The undefeated Under 10 Raiders played a first vs second game on Friday night against Innisfail.

Other Under 10 team had played on Wednesday night for their final game of the season. All the boys turned up to play and what a great game it was.

We were very luck to have David Sands Snr ref this game and with his willingness to explain his decisions to the boys and girls, the game flowed on.

Innisfail had improved from their last outing against us and the boys kept them at bay. Tries for Raiders were by Nick Scommazzon, Kalepo Tusa (who scored twice) and Tom Walker for the final try with a conversion by Scotty Bowen.

The final score was the Raiders 22 defeating Innisfail 0.

Under 12

The Under 12 Raiders finished their season in style with a deserving 43–12 victory over the Innisfail Vikings last Friday evening, finishing in third spot overall.

The opening ten minutes was very fast with both forward packs throwing themselves into the rucks, and after the Raiders worked their way towards the Vikings line Hugo Walker picked the ball off a ruck and charged in under the posts opening the Raiders account.

Innisfail hit back moments later, but it was clear the Raiders were not going to let the game go and began to throw the ball around finding plenty of room out wide.

Tully Cartwright played his best game of the year at inside centre putting his outside men into space off every attacking ball and booting the Raiders out of trouble in defence.

The second half saw the Vikings tactics turn to sledging, pushing and shoving which the Raiders seemed to enjoy.

Matty Chesterfield put on a couple of crunching tackles and Charlie Burns added some mongrel to the rucks rising for the occasion. Glen McFarlane was outstanding on the wing putting anyone who ran at him into touch with some strong defence.

Luke Pellegrinet played his final game in the area and again was a tower of strength and we wish him all the best for his future, thank you Luke.

The Raiders fitness and determination has showed in every game they played this season, they played every game as hard as they could displaying a fantastic attitude and great sportsmanship.

Every player in the team can be proud themselves for a great result and a great season.

Well done to all players of Junior Raiders on a job well done this season.  Thanks to all the coaches for their dedication to the kids, big thanks to Denise McHugh who without we would not have juniors and organisation.

The same goes to Stewart Cowe and Joanne Cowe, Belinda and Sheree for organising and manning the bar at home games, Anne and Tan for their fantastic sausage sizzles and Scomazzon’s for the onions.

Thanks to all parents for making the commitment and see you all at the presentation night this Friday 9 December at the clubhouse grounds in Port. Cheers.
