Capt Cook Hwy single-lane closure over hols

Single-lane closures will remain during the holiday season on a section of the Captain Cook Highway near Ellis Beach, as work continues to repair a slope.

Transport and Main Roads Far North regional director Tony Potter said the road had been reduced to single-lane traffic while work was under way above the road.

“As work has progressed, the contractor has uncovered additional damage to the slope which has delayed the completion of the project,” Mr Potter said.  “A temporary lane closure is unfortunate, particularly on this busy road and at this
time of the year, however, it’s necessary for motorists’ safety.

“Traffic will be reduced through a 200-metre section, with lights and a reduced speed limit of 60km per hour.”

Mr Potter said work to repair the slope damaged by consecutive wet weather events would continue early next month.

“I appreciate motorists’ patience and cooperation while we carry out these important repairs,” Mr Potter said.
