Vipers strike to take victory

by Treveen Page

10 Under

The Douglas Junior Netball competition started with the 10/Under Diamonds playing the Tigers on Court 1 on a lovely warm afternoon.

The Diamonds played great netball and Amelia Lee displayed some fantastic leading and circle work.  Charlotte Dowling and Kyah Francis combined well and Hayley Barnes made some great plays in attack for her team.

The Tigers, who are showing vast improvement each week, were complimented by some strong defence by Carla Young as keeper, some brilliant defence and nice passing by Libby and Logan Buzza, and little Keely Poole up from Net Set Go made some nice intercepts.

The team showed some stellar passing and spread themselves well over the court.

Final score Diamonds 8 def. Tigers 1.

The Gladiators played the Saints and the Gladiators started well with some fantastic rebounding and intercepting by Jasmine Kirk. Georgia McCarthy played a
strong game in centre and defended well when the ball was with the opposition.

Eva Mellows is only little in stature but has a big heart and in play put in a brilliant game.  For the Saints there was great defence by Jay Heidke and Kate Padovan. Fantastic centre work by Stella Burnett and Jordan Scott provided Keely Harold with many opportunities shooting for goal.

Final score Gladiators 5 def. Saints nil.

12 Under

The 12/Under competition on Court 1 saw the Crocs playing Magic. Nicky Samson, who is greatly improved this year, made some great intercepts, Lauren Radcliffe worked well to get the ball to goal and Lily Davies showed some very nice leading in the goal circle.

The Magic team put in a fine game. Samaria Denman paired well with Cian Dansken in driving the ball to goal, Sophie O'Gorman-Petrack made great use of the goal circle and thanks to Jasmine Kirk for playing up from the Gladiators who put in a brilliant game as well.

Final score Magic 16 def. Crocs 4.

The Panthers played the Allstars, and as always the Panthers' ever reliable Robyn Bruenig put in a fantastic game. Bonnie Francis lead well along with Savaanah Scott and Shannon Lincoln. Jade Reed has established herself as a great defensive player.

The Panthers enjoy their game and always show great sportsmanship - a great bunch of girls!

The Allstars teamed up for some very nice plays from talented Isabella Cattanach and Liana Pelegrinet - who is always ready for the intercept - and put in a strong game.

Her efforts were finished by some great shooting from Eliza Markham.

Final score Allstars 30 Def. Panthers nil.

The Sparks played Miallo. For the Sparks, Tiah McLean always puts in 110% effort each week, and it's great to watch her play - well done! Tayler Miller and Keely Harold were strong in defence as well as Denby Woods.

The team put in a fantastic effort against the slick Miallo team.

Miallo put in another great team effort with some very fast passing and showed nice timing. Lily Wicks was on fire for the whole game, Elle Kadwell shot a brilliant goal from the circle line and Lana Baxter was excellent in attack.

Final score Miallo 23 def. Sparks nil.

Special mention to Jade Schuck (our invaluable goal shooter in Miallo and 12/Under Reps) who due to an accident will be out of netball for a few weeks. All at Douglas Netball wish you a speedy recovery and best wishes.

14 Under

The Judamalies (Thunderstorm) played the Dynamite in the 14/Under competition on Court 1. For the Judamalies, Kloee Revel ran the court well and didn't stop trying for the whole game - fantastic effort Kloee!

Frankie Webster stood up in defence along with Dakota Bowen. The game was hard fought and Holly Brown shot a brilliant goal from the edge of the goal circle. Brittaney Bowen and Maddy Weaver again worked the ball well around the goals.

Thanks to Coral Deen for her on court coaching of the Judamalies.  The Dynamite's goal combination worked really well, Yasmine Stievano is turning into a great little defender, Emma Stievano worked well in centre and Simone Pringle made some great plays in the goal circle.

The team displays some very nice slick passing and are the team to beat coming into finals.

Final score Dynamite 23 def. Judamalies 5.

The 12/Under Reps played the Vipers and it was the 12 Reps who started well shooting 4 goals to 3 in the first half.

Maddy Malone showed some great overhead passing, Liana Pelegrinet and Elle Kadwell both put in fantastic games and Rae Page showed some concise passing to her team mates. Bonnie Francis shot a brilliant goal from the outer line on the goal circle, well done! The team missed Jade Schuck, their goal shooter, this week.

The Vipers played a great game with Molly Delaney excellent in centre, some nice plays and shooting by Jeorgia Westgate, and very strong on attack by Tayler Durie kept the team on track. They do miss absent Jess Eagle-Rowe due to injury.

Special thanks to Nicky Samson who played up from 12s. She put in a top defensive game and showed great passing skills - well done Nicky!!

Final score Vipers 9 def. 12/U Reps 7.
