Thriller in Douglas Netball

It was a week of big scores this week starting with the Central Cougars defeating Blood Orange 53 – 11. Not only do the Cougars hold the minor premiership position after an undefeated season, this week they also take the award for the most goals scored in any one game.

Cougars shooter, Michelle Pitt, and defender, Nichelle Pitt, both had a great impact on the game and were awarded the game’s best and fairest.

Although the Blood Orange side suffered a great loss, this does not mean that they did not play well. The side was yet again down on players but they still gave it their all and put in 100%.

Their defence was constantly turning over the ball and their shooters made it hard for the Cougars defence.

Another big game this week was the fight for second position between Rattle N Hum and the Young Guns.

This week the Guns got the better of their rivals in a 28 – 15 victory. The young side was very tight in defence allowing Rattles mistakes to be converted into goals by the Guns shooter, Charlotte Turvey.

Charlotte was awarded best and fairest along with Rattle defender, Alison Richardson.

The hard training from the young side is paying off and puts them in a good position for the finals.

A-reserve saw another big score when the Julatten Jewels took on the Pink Panthers and walked away with a 49 – 18 win.

The Jewels were simply too fast and the Panthers gave away too many balls. Jewels wing attack, Lilly Hewson, played a key role in feeding the ball down the court into the shooter and was awarded the best and fairest of the game.

Panthers defender, Jess Roberts, also shares this for her efforts in defending the shooters.

In the second A-reserve game of the night the Sugarland Shooters went down by ten goals to the Crocs.

Sugarland were simply unable to execute their chances at goals when they needed it most. Their defender, Bec Pont, played another great game and did her best to shut down the Crocs attack, for this she received the best and fairest award.

Crocs shooter Emma Kate also shared this after her great shooting leading her team to victory.

B grade saw one of the tightest games of the season with the second place U-14 Rep team beating the Jets over the line by just one goal.

The Jets started off well but were unable to get a single goal in the second quarter. They bounced back in the third but dropped again in the fourth to lose the game.

Rep shooter, Marley Cairns, and Jets shooter, Grace Walker, were both awarded the game’s best and fairest player.

Leading into the finals the Jets hold the minor premiership title as they look to gain the premiership.

Last but not least the Breakers had a great win over the Bad Habitats. The Breakers didn’t start as well as they had thought they would but the second quarter was a different story. They took the win 22 – 14 and were very happy with the achievement.

Breakers defender, Lauren Ryan, and Habitats keeper, Lisa Glanfield were awarded the game’s best and fairest player.

Special Congratulations to Julatten Jewels player, Lilly Hewson, who has been awarded this week’s player of the round! She has won one nights’ accommodation for two people at the Mt. Carbine Hotel Motel for her efforts this week.

Note: The finals draw will be sent out to all captains by the end of the week.
