The sports wrap with Nicky G

The Cairns Taipans have finally announced the signing of import quarterback Jamar Wilson and as always his stats look great - he will probably dominate.

The reality however is that a lot of these imports struggle in the NBL and quite a high percentage get sent home prematurely! I won’t have an opinion on Jamar until I see him play but I hope he is the right fit for this group.

After losing the core of last years’ Grand Finalists team I guess a couple of things come to mind. Although Dorsey and Ubaka were sensational for us last year is it possible they were due for the second year blues?

It’s something the Cairns brains trust need not worry about now as they are the problem of Trevor Gleeson and the Melbourne Tigers – a nice problem to have mind you!

Daniel Dillon was thrown a lifeline by the Taipans last year and responded by being all class, won us games and was by far the recruit of the year!!

Where does he go from here? If he doesn’t have a good year as a Tiger his stocks will plummet and he will be looking for another lifeline. My point is – maybe it’s not a bad thing these guys have moved on. The second year yips are something we don’t have to worry about now!

Bring in the new blood and let’s roll the dice – Go Taipans!

Round 20 in the AFL proved once again that the top 4 and bottom 4 are miles apart. The amount of floggings being dished out is a worrying trend and with GWS to join in next season the trend will not get better any time soon.

What’s happened to Port Adelaide? This club has been awesome since it entered the competition but now it would be lucky to win a VFA game! How did the wheels fall so heavily off so quickly?

When you lose players the calibre of Cornes, Tredrea, the Burgoyne Bros. etc it’s going to take its toll but they truly suck right now. Maybe Matty Primus is NOT the man for this job! A ‘youth policy’ can be an excuse for ‘bad coaching’!
