The best junior netball wrap in town

Douglas Netball is holding its Junior Netball Carnival this Sunday at Port Courts. 43 teams will be competing over the day in Netta, 10/U, 12/U, 14/U and 16/U.

Teams from as far afield as Innisfail will be competing what will be a great display of Junior Netball from our region.  

Volunteers are always needed so please let us know if you can help, there will be a full canteen, raffles and some entertaining netball on offer.

Now for all the latest match reports from yesterday's competition.

10 Under

Douglas Junior Netball started with the 10/U Diamonds playing the Gladiators on Court 1.

The Diamonds played a great defensive game with Kalani Revel putting in a strong performance, and Hayley Barnes attacked at every opportunity along with
Amelia Lee and Logan Buzza. Kyah Francis finished off with some nice shooting.  

The Gladiators standout player for the day was Jaslyn Chesterfield who showed some fantastic passing and sure hands when catching the ball. Georgia McCarthy also
displayed some skilled passing.  

Final score Gladiators 8 def. Diamonds 2.   

Thanks to junior umpires Rae Page and Liana Pelegrinet mentored by Meg Goodall and Grace Walker.  

The Saints played the Tigers on Court 2 in a tough game with lots of intercepts and turnovers. For the Saints, newcomer Kaci Bernie played a great game, Jay Heidke attacked the ball with gusto and Kate Padovan was excellent in defence.  

The Tigers are showing vast improvement as a team each week with Carla Young fantastic in defence stopping many goals from the opposition and Heidi Pashen attacking the ball well. Keely Poole also put in a solid game.  

Final score Saints 3 def. Tigers nil.

12 Under

The 12/U division played 2 rounds again this week in a 2 x 7 minute format to finalise the draw for finals.

The Allstars played Miallo on Court 1 for round 19 and the Allstars put in a top game with Liana Pelegrinet and Rae Page leading well over both sides
of the court. Isabella Catanach was strong in defence and Rachael Goodwin finished off well at goals.  

The Miallo team played well and Sophie May was great in defence making many timely intercepts. Elle Kadwell attacked well and shot some nice goals as the side showed great team work.  

Final score Allstars 4 def. Miallo 3.   

On Court 2 the Panthers played Magic. Savaanah Scott created some nice plays throughout the game, and Tully Case was excellent in defence. Bonnie Francis was brilliant in the goal circle with nice work by Allie McKay.  

The Magic team were strong all over the court with Samaria Denman great through the centre third, Sophie O'Gorman-Petrack handy and ready to pick up the ball and Abbey Kent outstanding in defence.  

Final score Magic 6 def. Panthers nil.

The Sparks played the Crocs and for the Sparks Tiah McLean was hard at the ball - she is showing great talent in the centre and wing attack position. Ella Dodds stepped up with some great defence, Carier Bennett lead well, and Sascha
Lowenstein-Jones put in some great efforts.  

The Crocs were too strong on the day and Aleesha Viola put in an excellent game in centre, while Lily Davis showed some accurate shooting. Thanks to Kyah Francis for playing up from the Diamonds.  

Final score Crocs 10 def Sparks nil.

Round 20 for the 12/U on Court 1 had the Crocs playing the Panthers. For the Crocs with a great game was played by Phoenix Scott-Spackman, there was some very nice leading in the circle by Courtney Sophocleous, and some exciting plays by Lily Davis.  

The Panthers showed team work with Robyn Bruening, Savaanah Scott and Bonnie Francis combining well and creating many opportunities. Jade Reed put in a strong game in goal keeper.  

Final score Crocs 3 def. Panthers nil.  

The Allstars played the Sparks on Court 2. The Allstars showed some nice passing, driving the ball to their goal and with great team work. Rachael Goodwin was dynamic in attack and Poppy Lawrence excellent in centre.  

The Sparks put in a big effort as a team, and Ella Dodds showed some brilliant defence while Tayler Miller put in a skilled attacking game - well done girls!

Final score Allstars 10 def. Sparks nil.  

The Magic played Miallo on Court 3 and it was the Magic who played a great game with some very good defence by Mia Brennan. Breeana Fordham lead strongly for the game and Samaria Denman again was a
presence all over the court.  

For Miallo, Maddy Malone and Elle Kadwell ran well to the ball and were pivotal in some very good team play.  

Final score Miallo 9 def. Magic 1.  

14 Under

 
The 14/U competition on Court 1 saw the Judamalies playing the Violet Vipers. The Judamalies put in a strong performance for 4 quarters and Frankie Webster created many opportunities for her team with some great intercepting.

Holly Brown was fantastic in and around the goal circle and shot well for goal, and thanks to Jess Viola for playing up from the 12s Crocs.  

For the Vipers there was strong defence from Tayler Durie, Tayler Killeen was very good in attack, while Akasha Francis put in some brilliant intercepts. The team put in an excellent game but not good enough to overcome the Judamalies.

Thanks to Samaria Denman for playing up from 12s Magic.  

Final score Judamalies 10 def. Vipers 5.  

The 12 Reps played Dynamite on Court 2, but the Reps were slow to start off. Liana Pelegrinet lead well and Maddy Malone was brilliant in defence, combining well with Mikeala Goodwin and Saisha Schonenberger.

The defence worked well but not good enough to stop the Dynamite. Bonnie Francis put in some impressive work as shooter. The Dynamite started with a 6 goal to nil first quarter as the team showed timing and
effective passing, working the ball well down the court.

Brydie Tregea put in some great plays along with Emma Stievano and Bronte Lowenstein-Jones shot well for goal.  

Final score Dynamite 10 def. reps 2.
 
Thursday training at the Mossman Indoor centre is cancelled this week due to preparations for the weekend carnival. We look forward to seeing you all at the courts on Sunday. The first game is at 8.30am and teams playing at 8.30 will need to arrive by 8am ready to take the court with no jewellery, short nails, sunscreen and hair tied back, good runners and in uniform.

Please be on your best behaviour, you are representing Douglas Netball.   
 
Junior netball will wrap up on the last Tuesday before the September school holidays - our draw does not finish with the Seniors draw.
