Teamwork works best for Diamonds

Douglas Junior Netball started this week on court 1 with the 10/Under Diamonds playing the Saints, great teamwork by the Diamonds had them on the score board quickly, the team is strong in all aspects of play, Kyah Francis lead well around the goal circle along with great work by Jaime Thurtell.


The Saints with Jordan Scott playing a fantastic centre, Kate Padovan with strong leading and very nice rebounding by Stella Burnett put in a great game backed up by Keely Harold brilliant in defence.  Final score Diamonds 4 def. Saints 2.  Thanks to first time umpires in training this week Rae Page & Mikaela Goodwin mentored by Corrine Garland great to see the young players putting in the effort to learn to umpire. 


The Tigers played the Gladiators on court 2, the Tigers showed some impressive plays with nice passing by Libby Buzza and some great promise with little Keely Poole and Tara Smith who have stepped up from Net Set Go playing spirited games and showing themselves to be fantastic netballers. 


The Gladiators are becoming a very talented team, Ebony Schonenberger did some very nice passing and leading, Jasmine Kirk showed her experience all over the court and Eva Mellows was great in attack, Georgia McCarthy shot very well for goal.  Final score Gladiators 10 def. Tigers nil.  Thanks to umpires in training, Liana Pelegrinet and Georgia Duncan mentored by Jade Harold and Karlie Brady.


The 12/Under competition played 2 rounds this week in order to end their rounds evenly in time for finals, the format was round 17 and then round 18 in 2 x 7 minute halves.


Round 17 on Court 1 was played by Miallo and the Panthers, Miallo played well with Sophie May in attack and Lana Baxter great as wing defence finished by some very nice work around the circle with Elle Kadwell and Lily Wicks.  The Panthers put in a very good effort, Ellie Siebel showed some strong passing and Robyn Bruening played her usual determined game and intercepted at every opportunity, Bonnie Francis showed very good timing and positioning and Tully Case defended well.  Final score Miallo 2 def. Panthers nil. Thanks to Corrine Garland and Chenoa Ryan for umpiring.


Court 2 saw the Allstars play the Crocs, the Allstars with nice leading by Poppy Lawrence and great circle work by Rae Page had the Allstars with a 7 goal to nil lead in the first half.  The Crocs with strong defence by Jess Eagle-Rowe, ever reliable Phoenix Scott-Spackman always reading the play well and Courtney Sophocleous as goal keeper against much taller opposition did a fantastic job.  Final score Allstars 12 def. Crocs 2. Thanks to Chrissy Sophocleous and Lauren Ryan for umpiring.  On court 3 the Magic played the Sparks, the Magic with nice use of the court and great intercepting by Breeana Fordham and the usual fantastic effort displayed by Sophie O'Gorman-Petrack had the team ahead on the score board.  The Sparks put in a great effort, thanks to Kyah Francis for playing up from 10s, Tayler Miller was hard at the netball with sure hands on the ball and Tiah McLean again put in a 110% effort through centre.  Final score

Round 18 for the 12/Under on court 1 had the Crocs and Miallo playing a very tight game, Lana Baxter played well again in attack and Maddy Malone showed great use of both sides of the court switching when needed to create options over the court.  The Crocs put in a fantastic game with nice passing
by Lily Davies and Nicky Samson again very strong in centre position and great circle work by Lauren Radcliffe and Aleesha Viola, well done girls! Final score nil all draw.  Thanks to Corinne Garland and Chenoa Ryan for umpiring. 


Court 2 had the Panthers and Sparks playing, the Panthers with nice passing by Robyn Bruening and Shannon Lincoln and very confident plays by Bonnie Francis, played a great game.  The Sparks with very good moves by Sascha Lowenstein-Jones and confident, strong play by Cartier Bennett who used both hands to pull in the ball to gain possession, complimented again by Tiah McLean who reads the play brilliantly.  Final score Sparks 2 def. Panthers 1.  Thanks to
Chrissy Sophocleous and Lauren Ryan for umpiring. 


The Magic played the Allstars on court 3,  the Magic with great work by Casilda Creek and Samaria Denman who combine so well over the court were even at 2 goals in the first half, Shania Jacobsen showed some strong grabs for the ball, pulling it in with 2 hands, well done! 


The Allstars with nice leading by Liana Pelegrinet and great circle work by Rachael Goodwin and Eliza Markham came away with the winning combination a fantastic game as usual between these 2 sides.  Final score Allstars 5 def. Magic 3.  Thanks to Anne McFarlane and Laura Berney for umpiring.


The 14s competition on court 1 was between the Judamalies and the 12/Under rep team, the Judamalies with great defence by Dakota Bowen, some very nice leading by Brittany Bowen, Holly Brown and Maddy Weaver working well together in the goal circle all put in great games in a very tight contest.


The 12 reps had to work hard in every position against their very tough oppostion, Mikeala Goodwin was great in defence along with Saisha Schonenberger, Maddy Malone worked hard throughout the game with some timely intercepting and passing, Bonnie Francis reads the play so well against larger opposition and Elle Kadwell with her relaxed style always pops up at the right time to gain possession of the ball.  Final score 11 draw. The Dynamite played the Vipers on court 2, the Dynamite with strong defence from Yasmine Stievano, good positioning in the circle by Bronte Lowenstein-Jones and great work shooting for goal by Marley Cairns stamped their place in the finals race as the team to beat. 


The Vipers with very strong intercepts by Tayler Durie and fantastic defence by Bella Kurth have the talent to contest the finals at grand final level, Jeorgia Westgate put in great work in the circle and shot well for goal.  Final score Dynamite 10 def. Vipers 7.  Thanks to umpires in training Grace Walker and Mikeala Goodwin mentored by Cassandra Hill and Corrine Garland.


Douglas Junior Netball is holding it's annual carnival on Sunday the 28th of August, we require volunteers for the day and all help is valued, there will be over 40 teams competing in 5 age groups from the Far North, a great exhibition of Junior Netball from our region.  There will be a full canteen operating and a major raffle.
