Port Douglas Police were called to a disturbing animal cruelty case last Sunday night involving four dogs being kept in a cage on the back of a Toyota Landcruiser on Davidson Street.

Acting Sergeant Sharon Butler said police received numerous calls about the disturbance outside accommodation houses close to the Macrossan Street intersection, where they found one of the dogs attacking an injured dog inside the cage it was sharing.

Acting Sergeant Butler said when police could not gain access to the cage, Cairns Regional Council staff and a vet attended to take the injured dog for veterinarian treatment.

The owner of the vehicle and the dogs was later located. The case is being investigated by Cairns Regional Council staff.

A 43-year-old Victorian male will appear in Mossman Court his morning after being charged with drink driving on Friday, August 26.

Port Douglas Police say the man, driving a Hyundai Getz, was intercepted during standard RBT checks on Davidson Street at 22.45pm and blew a reading of 0.106.

Police are seeking information into the unlawful entry of a car parked on Wharf Street outside the Meridien Marina at the weekend.

The Mitsubishi Pajero was allegedly broken into sometime between 7.30pm on Saturday night and the early hours of Sunday morning, with the front passenger window smashed.

While it appeared the glove box had been ransacked, police say it was unknown if anything was stolen.
