Million Dollar question

20 finalists from 11 countries and regions will be in Port Douglas this week to battle it out for $1 million in Queensland incentive travel experiences in the Million Dollar Memo campaign.

The finalists arrive in Port Douglas today and will experience an indigenous evening at Flames of the Forest tonight.

Accompanied by around 30 representatives from the media, they'll journey out to the reef tomorrow with Quicksilver, before the big announcement is made at Sea Temple Port Douglas on Wednesday afternoon.

It is expected that Channel 9's Today show will be doing weather crosses on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Tourism Queensland CEO Anthony Hayes said the incentive travel market was a lucrative area, with incentive travellers spending more than $300 million per year in Queensland.

"The Million Dollar Memo campaign aims to grow this figure by backing up Tourism Queensland's five-year incentive strategy," he said.

"Ultimately our aim is to position Queensland as the top incentive destination in the Asia Pacific region."

Tourism Queensland have reportedly placed a "media value" (being the amount of publicity they have received) on the marketing activities undertaken by the companies involved of $6 million, however added that it would be difficult to measure future bookings made directly as a result of the campaign, labelling the Million Dollar Memo "an awareness building activity."

A Tourism Australia representative also told The Newsport that similar difficulties were also experienced after Oprah's Ultimate Australian Adventure.

The final Million Dollar Memo 20 include:
