Battle for final spots in netball

The Douglas Junior Netball started this week with the 10/Under Diamonds playing the Tigers and it was the Diamonds who started off strongly shooting 3 goals to nil in the first half.

Dominique Lee put in some great plays, Kyah Francis finished off well with fantastic leading and played the goal circle well, Amelia Lee took some great intercepts in defence and Charlotte Dowling was hard at the ball for 4 quarters. The Diamonds are playing so well as a team, great work!

The Tigers had Heidi Pashen always in the thick of the game or creating plays for her team, while Carla Young put in a great defensive game and young Paige Bellero was excellent.

Final score Diamonds 8 goals def. Tigers nil.

Thanks to umpires Meg Goodall, Anne McFarlane and Aimee Watson for mentoring Eleisha Mealing.

The Gladiators played the Saints. The Gladiators had the experienced and in form sisters Jasmine and Sophie Kirk, who worked together well in the circle finishing off well for goal for their team, ably backed up by great play by Eva Mellows and Keely Poole who showed some fantastic leading and put in a good strong game.

The Saints were always on the ball. Kiara-Mae Gaddes was brilliant through the centre and tough at the ball, Keely Harold, Kiara Mae Gaddes and Myah Lowenstein-Jones worked very well in the goal circle never wasting an opportunity.

Final score Gladiators 6 def. Saints 3.

Thanks to junior umpires Samaria Denman and Sophie O'Gorman-Petrack mentored by Grace Walker and Natalie Littler.

The 10/Under competition, although we do score, do not compete in finals so all receive participation trophies at presentation.

The 12/Under competition started finals this week, and the top 4 four teams were placed in Division A while the bottom 2 teams were placed in Division B for finals.

The Allstars played Miallo and the Miallo team played a fast and slick passing game. The girls are consistent and strong in their positions which shows on the court,

Maddy Malone was excellent in centre and Elle Kadwell and Jade Schuck finished off strongly for goal - Great game Miallo!

The Allstars, who finished top of the ladder, did not show the team discipline of their opponents and will need to work well together if they are to continue their finals run.

Final score Miallo 9 def. Allstars 3.

The Magic played the Crocs on court 2. The Magic team, with Julie O'Gorman standing in for coach Laura Bernie, played a great game. Abbey Kent was fantastic in defence along with Shania Jacobsen and the team moved the ball fast down the court. Sophie O'Gorman-Petrack was strong to finish off for goal.

The Crocs team put in a fine game and showed some nice passing. Lauren Radcliffe played a fantastic 4 quarters, along with Phoenix Scott-Spackman who was leading well in the circle combining with the strong presence of Jess Viola.

Final score Magic 20 def. Crocs 7.

The Division B Sparks and Panthers played on court 3 in a nailbiter. Both teams were nil all in the first quarter and for the Sparks Tiah McLean and Tayler Miller put in a brilliant game showing their ever realiable strong play.

Ella Dodds played well and Sascha Lowenstein-Jones finished well for goal.  The Panthers, under the passionate coaching of Angela Pringle have improved in leaps and bounds. This team has stepped up for finals with Jade Reed putting in some great defensive plays.

Along with Tully Case, Bonnie Francis was excellent with her accurate passing and fantastic shooting. Well done!

Final score was a draw.

Division B will play off for another 2 weeks for the Winner and Runner Up and both teams have improved. The finals will prove to be very entertaining, enjoy it girls and well done coaches.

The 14/Under Semi-Final was played between first and second, Vipers and the Dynamite. The Dynamite, who finished second on the ladder, are playing fantastic netball, covering all aspects of the game, attack, defence and goals seamlessly against their opponents.

The combined effort of Simone Pringle and Eleisha Mealing in defence made it hard for the Vipers to score. Brydie Tregea was excellent in centre but the whole team played well.

The Vipers, who have had injuries in the last few weeks, put in a great game but could not get the score on the board. It was good to see Jess Eagle-Rowe back in the team after an injury (not netball related). She has done a marvelous job as the stand in coach.

Tayler Durie put in a great game and was a strong competitor for 4 quarters. There were plenty of intercepts and turnovers in this game, which the score does not reflect.

Final score Dynamite 18 def. Vipers 3.

The 12/Under Reps played the Judamalies, and the Reps kept up with their larger and older opposition for the first quarter. Maddy Malone was excellent creating many opportunities and some sharp passing while Saisha Schonenberger put in a top game. The whole team played well together.

The Judamalies put in a fantastic second quarter shooting 5 goals to nil. Lauren Ryan was brilliant, Kloee Revel put in some strong intercepts and Dakota Bowen was great in defence.

Thanks to Lauren Radcliffe for playing up from 12s, she delivered a fantastic game.

Final score Judamalies 16 def. 12/U Reps 5.
