Ask Jason

     Dear Jason

What are your thoughts on CRC’s plan to dramatically reduce the amount of trailer parking area for recreational boaties at the Western Precinct on Daintree River in favour of building commercial facilities for 2 businesses there?

From: Name withheld, Daintree.

Response from State Member for Cook, Jason O'Brien.

Not sure who this one has come from but it is a toughie.  I'm yet to see the final plan but it would certainly have to be signed off by a couple of state government departments including the Department of Main Roads and Transport before being adopted.

The provision of car and trailer parking is basically a Council responsibility but I will feed the constituents concerns to the Department.

The other thing I would say is that the master plan was agreed to after some pretty heavy consultation and compromise and not everybody is always going to be able to get everything they want.

While that may not sound supportive, I am aware that boating infrastructure in the region is under pressure and I will have some good news about the Newell Beach Boat ramp in the next couple of weeks.
