$45m funding for Councils

Cairns Regional Council will now be able to access a new $45 million pool of state funding to provide a range of essential infrastructure.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Local Government Paul Lucas recently announced guidelines for the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program (LGGSP).

"This $45 million program is a leg-up to councils to help them deliver the infrastructure and facilities Queensland communities will need in the future as they benefit from the state's economic growth," Mr Lucas said.

"Councils can seek a 40 per cent subsidy towards projects that are important to community life and support their local economy.

"This will be Infrastructure like a new cultural centre, upgrades to a town hall, new heritage sites, eco-friendly camping grounds, attractive foreshore upgrades, quality rest areas and effective lighting in public places.

"I encourage councils to engage with their communities to indentify projects that would benefit their region," he said.
