Raiders victory at home

by Adam Calcraft

Port Raiders trumped the reining champs, JCU, with what has been their best show for the last couple of years. In front of a decent sized home crowd the forwards dominated from the get-go, particularly in the line-outs.

The backs continued to improve with some strong running and some unbeatable defence.

The boys were locked at 14 all at the first half but the Raiders knew they were on the front foot and had a ten point wind advantage in the second half.

The Raiders raced to a 31-14 point lead, but with ten minutes to go JCU scored two quick tries to finish the day on a 31-28 scoreboard with victory going to the Port Douglas Reef Raiders.

Billys By The Sea man of the match went to Tony Ware, two points went to the ever improving Clint Kachel and one point went to the Nick Sherston.

This week catch the Raiders taking on Brothers in Atherton, kick off at 3.30pm.
