Local Ubaka's join new comp

With the success of the Cairns Taipans who are oh so close to taking our the country's biggest basketball prize, a group of local Ubaka's are taking to the court in a brand new competition.

The Mossman Basketball Assosication will be running a Men's Open Age comp on Wednesday nights from 4 May, and individuals and teams are being urged to pump up their Reebok's, dust off their Air Jordan's and register.

One man who is chomping at the bit is David Rootsey who is expecting some stiff competition.

"The competition will be as serious as the teams take it. I know from my experience with a few of the other players in the area that they will not lose easily and will fight for every win. Generally speaking though the competition is just an extension of the pick up games we have been having for the last couple of years."

And how is David's form? "Extremely average. I like to think I can play alright but deep down know my level of skill does not wow many," he said.

And which Cairns Taipan does he liken himself to?

"Dean Brebner. Except I cannot shoot the 3 pointer as well as him. He is the guy on the team that brings high energy and you can see he enjoys being on the court.

Referrees are also needed, so if you're good with a whistle, or would prefer to play then contact David on 0412 675 746 or rock up on the night at 6pm.
