Crocs back with a vengeance

by Des Rolfe

Port Douglas Crocs staged a brilliant performance of non-stop pressure football against North Cairns at Watsons Oval on Saturday.

Coach Andy Viola had a smile on his face in the last quarter when he realized that the lessons he has drummed into the squad about playing a relentless, winning brand of football had finally borne fruit.  The superior fitness and skill level demonstrated by the Crocs enabled them to run out easy winners.

The Reserves team too, enjoyed another most successful day and are now three for three.

Coach Darren Wall said, "It has been great to see our 16 to 18 year old kids getting in the best players consistently.  In the last two weeks one of our very best has been Zac O'Gorman, just 16 years old.  We have made a great start to the season and the future of our club looks bright with so many kids coming on."

Pat Barnett commented that Norths came out firing but the sheer leg speed of the Crocs just rolled obver the top of them.

So it was in the Seniors.  Despite the heat the game was played at break neck speed all day.  Highlights include Ralton Robert's lighning fast, accurate hand passing; Kane Uebergang streaming out of the centre kicking long bombs; the brilliant run by Brenton Bading in the third quarter - four bounces - goal; and the steal of the day - Mansie pinches the ball off opponent's boot.  Boom! Goal!

Even proud mums were thrilled that their sons still lived at home because they were playing so well.

An early prediciton for Mark of the Year - Captain "Buddah" Hocking's towering sky scraper in the middle of the pack.  A one grab spectacular.

In an amusing aside Dale Penney gave Sammy Boxhall a new name - "Voldermort", because of his weird nose harness to stop a nose bleed.

For the Crocs it was one of those days where everything went right.

In the next round the Crocs play Cairns City Lions at the Crocpit on 30 April.
