SA wines tops with collectors

South Australia, including the Clare Valley, has dominated the release of a new form guide to the most collectable wines in the country.

More than half of the new Langton's Classification of Australian Wines are South Australian made, the state's finest drops filling 68 of the top 123 best performing wines in the secondary auction market.

Topping the list for the 10th year, Penfolds Grange is joined in the 'Exceptional category' of the 17 most highly sought after and prized wines on the market by other respected SA reds such as Henschke Hill of Grace, Rockford Basket Press Shiraz and Wendouree Shiraz and Penfolds Bin 707 Cabernet.

Four more South Aussies, the Torbreck Run Rig Shiraz, Grosset Polish Hill Riesling, Clarendon Hills Astralis Syrah and Chris Ringland Shiraz, joined the top tier of wine investments in the latest Langton's Classification, released yesterday.

SA also led the way in the second benchmark tier of wines with a strong auction market following, filling 20 of the 32 spots in the Langton's Outstanding class.

This news isn't a major surprise to the management of the Port Douglas Wine Company who are launching the Port Douglas Heritage Wine series next Wednesday 6th October at the Port Douglas Magazine Awards being held on the Sunset Balcony at the Newsport Daily Marina Offices.

Both the Heritage series Riesling and Shiraz wines are from the world renowned Clare Valley from South Australia, the same area as the top tier Grosset Polish Hill Riesling and the highly sort after Wendouree Shiraz.

First shipments should be in the Port Douglas restaurants by the end of next week, immediately after their celebration launch on Wednesday Oct 6th.

Darry Honey from Clare Valleys' Honey Estate, whose grapes have been especially selected for the Riesling says that these two wines will set the standard for the new Heritage Series, "They have been designed to over deliver for the affordable price that diners will find them listed in the best Port Douglas restaurants".

South Australia has had a wonderful year as the above report demonstrates , so check out the Port Douglas Heritage Wine Series and you can judge for yourself.
