More flight delays possible

Continued bad weather may cause more flight delays and cancellations to and from Cairns International Airport according to airport Communications Advisor, Helen Laird.

"More bad weather may mean more delays," she said. "While we had poor conditions over the weekend and today (Monday), the cloud hasn't been low enough to have an impact."

The planned upgrade to the airport's Instrument Landing Systems has meant that planes have been unable to approach the airport in conditions they may normally be able to negotiate.

Ms Laird said that the upgrade is due to be completed by the end of September.

Unseasonably bad weather caused havoc at the airport last week with dozens of flights affected.

Wayne Postlewaight from Exemplar Coaches and Limousines said the flight chaos hasn't had a big influence on the number of people coming to Port Douglas.

"There hasn't really been a drop off. It's more frustrating for passengers and drivers," he said. "It's definitely not putting them off."
