Marlin Coast Outrigger Challenge
This coming Saturday Oct 2nd sees the third annual Port Douglas Marlin Coast challenge run off shore between Ellis Beach and Port Douglas for OC1 (Single Outrigger Canoe) and OC2 (Outrigger Canoe Double).
The outrigger canoes race a total of 38kms over four legs - Ellis Beach to Wangetti 11.5kms, Wangetti to Oak Beach 8kms, Oak Beach to South End of Four Mile Beach 10.5kms and finally Four Mile Beach to Finish 8kms. The last leg has been extended by 3kms this year to even ip all the legs.
To ensure all competitors have a safe passage down the coast, Wendy Morris will be conducting a short blessing of the canoes after the pre-race briefing.
Latest news says that teams are coming from Townsville, Arafura and Mooloolaba as well as a full entrance from the locals.
After the races, all the paddlers will be getting together at the Port Douglas Court House Hotel to relive the races and have a few social drinks.
It won't get too much out of hand though, because most of the competitors will be taking full advantage the following on Sunday 3rd of the Paddling Clinic from 8am to 10am with guest paddlers Mat carter and Leo Young.
