A local builder has won an award in the prestigious Master Builders Association Housing and Construction Awards recently held recently at the Cairns Convention Centre.

Nathan Verri from Verri Industries won FNQ's Rising Star Award in the $251,000 to $400,000 price range category for his work at a Cooya Beach property.

It's the second year in a row the young builder has been among the winners in the awards, taking out the State title last year.

"It's quite a competitive price bracket because it's the most affordable and it's in that range that most houses get built," Nathan said.

He will now be eligible for this year's State awards to be held on 1 October in Brisbane, and if again successful, will be up against the nation's best builders in the Australian titles.
