Epic Triathlon this Saturday

Arguably Australia’s toughest triathlon, the Hahn Super Dy Long Course Triathlon hits town this Saturday.

The gruelling event, which has attracted eight professional athletes from Australia as well as German Ironman Torsten Able, will involve a 2 kilometre swim, 80 kilometre bike ride, and finish with a  20 kilometre run.

Torsten Abel is currently in Cairns and will take part in this weekend's event as part of his preparation for the infamous Hawaiian Ironman World Championships.

To make this even harder for participants, the late 11am start will mean the course will be hotter and windier than usual.

But don't be put off completely. If you'd still like to be part of he action but cower in the corner at the thought of finishing an already epic event with a virtual half marathon, why not take up the short course option?

A 1 kilometre swim, 30 kilometre bike ride, and 10 kilometre run will be no walk in the park, but may be just the challenge you need to test your boundaries.

Team entries are also available so get some friends together and get involved. Registrations open at 10am at the Port Douglas Surf Club.

Alternatively, if kicking back and watching other people torture themselves is more your style, spectators are more than welcome - as long as you give your vocal chords a workout by giving the competitors enthusiastic encouragement.

If you'd like more information jump on the Port Douglas Long Course Triathlon website.
