Douglas Cricket gears up for new season

The new cricket season is upon us.  The second weekend 11th September sign on is being held at Mossman primary school Cricket nets for both Juniors and seniors from 10.30am to noon.

The first senior games for the Court House Hotel Mudcrabs open on September 19th. The reigning Premiership Champions B Grade Muddies open their season in Mareeba at Keribee Park in the 2 day comp starting at 1pm and C Grade team start their challenge in the 2 day comp away to Innisfail on the TAFE ground, again at 1pm.

It takes a huge effort of organisation to fund a sporting club in this modern era and the Muddies committee have asked us to pass on a special thanks to the sponsors who have stepped up to ensure the Muddies get their best shot for honours again this season.

The Court House Hotel has once again become the main sponsor.  Shirt sponsors include Sea Temple Resort and Spa, The Newsport Daily, IGA, Under Wraps, Port Douglas Jet Ski and to make sure the teams arrive in style Sun Palm Transport.

There are also social memberships available this year for those who want to enjoy a day relaxing watching a little leather on willow amongst friends on Chardonnay Hill.

Keithy 'Golden Arm' Taylor and Darryl Mison are working tirelessly with a whole army of willing helpers to prepare the home pitch at the Port Douglas Sports Ground after a very full season of wear and tear by the AFL Crocs, but they've got a little while and assure us that the pitch will be ready for first home games on 21st November for B Grade and 6th November for the C Grade.
