Fond memories of the inaugural Sunset in the Park in 2008 was a motivating factor for organisers to bring the event back this year.

2,000 people packed Rex Smeal Park two years ago to hear 17 bands strut their stuff, but less means more for 2010's Sunset in the Park 2  on Saturday 30 October."

We've invited ten of the best local bands to perform this year, meaning that each band will have a set of 30 or 40 minutes, rather than just the 10 or 20 minutes they had in 2008," said tourismportdouglas.com.au head, Sam Cullen, who is working with Footprints Music Festivals to stage the event.

Mr Cullen said it was important to grow a "grassroots" audience after the mixed success of big name acts visiting the area in the late 1990's.

"We're looking to build an audience based on the positive experience Sunset in the Park provides, in addition to the reputations of the artists," he said.

"We're promoting a culture of enjoying live, local music in the relaxed and serene surrounds of Rex Smeal Park. It also provides a platform for local artists to perform on the big stage in front of larger crowds."

The 2010 lineup includes long time favourites, Tonic, Fashion Tips For Tractors, The Interruptions, and Kan'd Peaches among others.

Sunset in the Park 2 kicks off at 1pm on Saturday 30 October, and winds up as darkness descends on Halloween Eve.

A $5 cover charge ensures the future of the event, and includes a donation to local charity, KIND.

So pack your picnic, and get down to Rex Smeal Park for an afternoon of "rock 'n' roots."
