Sheraton sold?

Rumours abound that the sale of the famous Sheraton Mirage Resort in Port Douglas has been finalised, although those close to negotiations are staying tight lipped on the subject.

David Simpson, Director of Acquisitions and Development for Starwood Hotels, said the agents involved in the sale have yet to confirm a deal has been done.

"They (the agents from global commercial real estate agents, Jones Lang LaSalle) are receiving submissions from potential buyers but they won't confirm with us until they have something signed," he said.

Authorised agent for the sale, Wayne Bunz from Jones Lang LaSalle's Brisbane office is surprised by the amount of "gossip and speculation" the sale of he iconic property has attracted.

"We make no secret that we've got genuine parties interested in the deal, but it's a complicated deal," he said.

Staff from the Sheraton Mirage have not been updated on the resort's sale. Lauchlan Walker, head of Sheraton Mirage in Port Douglas could not be contacted for comment.
