Sugarworld will be returned to its former glory as a well loved waterpark with a decision to build a new and enhanced waterslide.

After  community consultation and a feasibility study, the Council vowed to establish an innovative waterpark with a mix of water slides, rides and aquatic play features.

Mayor Val Schier said more than 750 participants in the consultative process had voted for the design during the feasibility study.

“The consultation process confirmed that in seeking an innovative modern replacement for the slides that would serve us all well into the future was preferable to replacing the original configuration,” Cr Schier said.

“The community gave us a clear and definite choice for what they would like to see replace the old waterslide structure.”

Council will now call for tenders for the design and construction of the slide.

The removal of the existing structure and other site preparations will begin as soon as possible.
