Muddies make it 3 in a row

Whilst the B Grade squad wait patiently to play their first game of the season, the C Grade have become an unstoppable force having played three games so far and achieving three wins.

This weekend Mareeba came to play a 50 overs each One Day game in Port Douglas and never really got into the game losing their first wicket on the first ball of the fourth over.

There was then a procession of batters until they were all out for 49 in just the 24th over.

The early damage was done by Dave Joyce with 10 overs, 5 for 15. He was ably supported by an accurate spell, but one without luck by Shane Palmer  who finished with 0 for 7 off his 6 overs.

The other wickets were shared between Simon Cody (4 overs, 2 for 4), Kendall Samkin (2 overs, 1  for 1)and Matty Schiesser (1 over, 1 for 4).

Kendall Samkin took one of the catches of the day off Dave Joyce's bowling, but Simon Cody didn't need any help in taking a superb caught and bowled for his first wicket.

The Muddies' opening pair played cautiously and carefully against a very respectable Mareeba bowling attack, but Doble and Carlin rolled mercilessly towards their target.

Steve Doble scored 26 not out and Nick Carling scored 20 not out with 4 extras to take the C Grades first 10 wicket win for three seasons.  A special mention should go out to Junior Jack Goodall who made his senior debut behind the stumps and according to his Captain, Steve Doble, performed very tidily.

Man of the Match was Dave Joyce with fellow Muddies players Shane Palmer and Steve Doble close behind.

The B Grade didn't get to play this weekend because they had a bye which unfortunately meant that with the rain cancelled game last week, they haven't been able to set foot on the pitch for the opening seven weeks of the season.

According to Club Captain Nathan King, they are still training hard in the nets but they are 'itching' to get out on the field to get some playing time under their belt in the defence of their premiership title.

The next B and C Grade games are a double header against Mulgrave and Atherton, both at Fretwell Park on Oct 23rd starting at 10am in the A Series 20/20 competition where the squad will be selected from both grades.
