Huge interest in lifesaving finale
From 10am this Saturday and 8am on Sunday, the PDSLSC will host the SLS Branch Championships with around 600 competitors ready to test their skills in the last of five SLS events of the carnival series.
Members will be attending from Mission Beach, Etty Bay, Palm Cove, Ellis Beach, and of course Port Douglas.
"It's the biggest event on our calendar," said Colin Cameron, committee member of the PDSLSC. "Individuals from these teams will be chosen to represent us at state level next year."
Spectators are encouraged to come along and support their local athletes.
In other surf lifesaving news, around 50 participants in eight categories took part in the Champion Lifesaver competition held recently.
The competition comprised a number of events which encompassed the many facets of what a Lifesaver may be required to do in a daily patrol.
This included an ocean swim, board paddle, beach sprint, tube rescue, and a live patient examination.
In addition, competitors undertook a mannequin patient exam and a theory paper.
Judges congratulated the PDSLSC on their efforts.
