'All hail the Ale!' at Porttoberfest IV

Now in its fourth straight year, the 2010 Port Douglas Beer Festival was held from noon 'til late on Saturday 16 October at the Court House Hotel.

As usual the bar staff got into the spirit of the occasion with Bavarian Lederhosen and Dirndl traditional costumes.  The mix of beers were served in European style tankards and the seating had been re-arranged to replicate the German Beer Halles of Munich.

A superb troupe of German style dancing girls, again in traditional Dirndls, from the local dancing school, Bodies in Motion, kept the crowds entertained with a series of authentic routines.

There were stacks of prizes for everyone to win for joining in with the traditional slap dancing, which all added to the fun of the day.  Local party fiend, Nicky G, hosted the afternoon with his fantastic range of world music.

A German couple who were passing by couldn't believe their eyes as they witnessed the beer festival, since this style of celebration is so closely associated with their own country and its traditions.

In fact Nicky, in his enthusiasm to please the assembly, played the German national anthem for them which made the female German tourist so happy that she wept with joy.  It doesn't get anymore authentic than that!

Around 250 packed the Courty throughout the afternoon and had a great time enjoying the beers of the world at what has become a very special annual event for Port.
