A cause worth riding for
While we are extremely lucky to be living in such a spot as this, there are people who still need support from our community from time to time. We regularly hear heartbreaking stories of loss and hardship.
Now Whitelion, a not-for-profit organisations who supports young people to build better lives for themselves, and helps make our community a more inclusive and safer place, are giving you the chance to get behind their great cause.
Whitelion invite you to ride along where the rainforest meets the reef from Port Douglas to Cape Tribulation (and back if you're feeling especially energetic) on 30 October as part of their fundraising activities.
Riders will have the option of riding the full 180km road course, or riding 90km's to Cape Tribulation and being transported back to the Port Douglas Surf Club.
At the conclusion of the ride Whitelion will be offering participants a barbeque at the Surf Club where the many prizes on offer will be drawn and given to lucky participants.
Lesley Stephens, organiser of the event said riders can expect full support on the course
"The event is fully supported and participants will be supplied with food and drinks at designated stops along the way," she said.
"We've also got lead and support vehicles who will accompany each group. Groups will be self seeded with the fastest leaving first, but recreational cyclists are more than welcome to join in.
"Each year thousands of young people are disconnected from our community due to abuse and neglect, drug addiction and poverty," said Ms Stephens.
"These young people have often had horrific life experiences with few positive role models and are caught in a 'cycle of discouragement' that is very hard to break."
A registration fee of $85 also includes a commemorative t-shirt, and of course the opportunity to support Whitelion.
