120 spend a Girl's Night In

A sold out function at the Court House Hotel was how 120 ladies decided to spend their Saturday night, while raising much needed money for the Shaw family.

Fashion, dancing and the odd glass of champagne was the order of the Girl's Night In, and as usual the Port Douglas hinterland community threw their support behind the event.

Corrine Garland helped organise the event which raised a further $7,000 for the Shaw's, who continue to be by daughter Evie's side as she bravely faces her health battle.

"We had a couple of fashion houses donate their time, and Gerry from Fitness Paradise took the Zumba class and had everyone participating," Ms Garland said.

The ladies also took time to reflect on what brought them together on the night.

"We talked about why we were there and the Port Douglas community," Ms Garland said. "Not many people have extended family up here so the community becomes that extended family."

Evie Shaw has reportedly commenced her radiation therapy in Brisbane.

"We hear she's in good spirits and has a big smile on her face constantly. She's not complaining and is just dealing with it." Ms Garland said.

A barbecue was also held at the Court House Hotel on Friday night in a more informal fundraising affair.
