Muddies bogged down but victorious

Wickets fell quickly, but the Muddies got over the line with win against Barron River.
Wickets fell quickly, but the Muddies got over the line with win against Barron River.

The Court House Hotel Port Douglas Mudcrabs continue their winning streak with another win against Barron River.

This win was a little tighter than they have grown used to and provided a timely reminder that you have to keep your foot on the gas at all times to win a race.

All bowlers contributed to this hard fought win.  Man of the match Daryl Mison took 3 for 12 in just 7 overs , Simon Cody bowled a very controlled line and length and finished with 3 for 16 in 7 overs, Matt Schiesser took 2 for 21 off his 7 overs and Dave Joyce contributed 2 for 18 off his 7 overs.

Cody also took two good catches, but just when you think you're having a great day, was given out when the Muddies took to the crease caught behind without touching it - but that's cricket!

Bronson Ryan took a good catch and was an example of the good, tight disciplined fielding and bowling that got Barron River all out for just 67.

It looked like a simple task to knock off this meagre total but Barron River, with veteran Peter Whitehead back in the saddle, were not going to go down without a fight.

Captain Steve Doble donned his Geoffrey Boycott hat and stuck to the task of anchoring the innings with an invaluable 8 runs from a dogged 17 overs.

Wickets were tumbling around him as the Muddies struggled to get to the total, but get there they did with Sammy Evans bringing them home with a quick game saving 18 not out for a 3 wicket win.

Next Saturday (Nov 6th) the C Grade have a home game at The Port Douglas Sports Ground.....Go the Muddies!
