Mo captains in war of words

The rivalry between Port Douglas and Mossman mo-bro's is growing faster than the mo's themselves as the Movember trash talk continues.

Port's Mo-Captain, Michael Foley is confident that his team is leading the fundraising race.

"Port Douglas is leading Mossman marginally, despite the Mossman farm boys being notoriously hairy banjo players," he said.

But leader of the Mossman pack, Bryce Madgwick, was quick to hit back at the claims.

"We've just cracked the $700 mark (on Friday), but I've got the spies out in Port and know that Michael's growth is somewhere between non-existent and a caterpillar," he said.

The Court House Hotel will be the venue for the first mo-bro get together on Wednesday from 5pm.

"Jason (manager of the Courty) has generously offered the first drink free for mo-bro's and is a legend for supporting the cause," Michael said. "We want people to come along and choose their favourite mo-bro and donate to them," he said.

But despite the banter, the two team captains are united when it comes to the topic of mens health.

"Our communities have experienced the effect of depression and we've had more than our share in this town," Michael said. "We're encouraging guys to talk about their problems to a friend, family member, or counsellor."

Funds raised during Movember are distributed evenly between treatment for depression and prostate cancer research.
