Haba fighting for future

With the salvaging process of Haba's Evolution dive boat underway and expected to be finished by tonight, Haba management focus is now firmly set on salvaging the company.

Haba's Macrossan St office has closed, and owner Bruce Funch is now looking to raise money from the proceeds of a garage sale to take place at their Craiglie shed this weekend.

"Our position is that as a company we're in serious trouble," Mr Funch said. "Having said that, my staff are all behind me, and I've had huge offers of support from individuals and business people in the community."

Mr Funch said that he and his management will do all they can to save the business."We're under a lot of pressure from banks and insurance companies, (but) we'll do everything we can to come back to what we were."

Salvage divers were on the scene yesterday placing lift bags that will be filled with air to refloat the vessel. On completion, it will be towed to Cairns for investigators to look into how the boat sunk on Sunday morning.

Office fittings, furniture, and dive gear are among the items that will be for sale at the Haba shed this Saturday and Sunday from 8am.
