Christmas to come early in Mossman

Around 2,500 people are expected to flock to George Davis Park under the famous rain trees in Mossman between 9am and 12 noon on 4 December for the Mossman Community Christmas Party.

The Mossman Chamber of Commerce are organising the free event with the support of Cairns Regional Council who are in the second year of a three year sponsorship agreement.

Event organiser, Jenny White, said the new format for the Christmas party, introduced in 2009, was well received by the 1,800 people who attended.

"It used to be a night time event on the street but there were issues with liability and alcohol," she said. "Last year we moved it to an alcohol-free event during the day which was much better for the kids."

Ms White said there'll be plenty of activities to keep the kids amused.

"Santa and his sleigh will be making an appearance, as will the Cairns Vintage Car Club. There'll be jumping castles, pony rides, face painting, sand art, and the police and fire brigade will be there with vehicles for the kids to have a look at," she said.

The Cancer Council and KIND will be on hand, as will the SES who will be working hard behind the barbecue to provide a free sausage sizzle. The Country Women's Association will also hold a raffle to win the coveted super-sized Christmas stocking.

Remember to encourage you kids to enter the colouring competition. Entries close on 1 December and there are some fantastic prizes to be won for the whole family including passes to Habitat, Jungle Surfing, and the Australian Muster Experience.
