Christmas appeal for local families
With Christmas just around the corner, it's time to spare a thought, and a few dollars to those less fortunate families in our area by contributing to the Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Appeal.
All funds raised will be used to buy food hampers that will be packed and delivered to families at Christmas time.
Donations of $2 or more are tax deductible and can be made online at the Cairns Regional Council website, at Council’s Customer Service Centres, any branch of Cairns Libraries, in specially marked collection boxes at selected businesses, or posted to The Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Appeal, PO Box 359, Cairns QLD 4870.
If your family need help this Christmas and you currently receive a government family benefit and have family with children up to 15 years, you can make an appointment with one of the following organisations:
- Salvation Army
- St Vincent de Paul Society
- Wuchopperen Social Health
- Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre
- Mossman Community Centre
- Goobidi Bamanga Douglas Indigenous Family Support Service
- Freshwater Church
- Cairns Regional Council’s Customers Services Centres in Cairns and Mossman
Be sure to take your Pension or Health benefit card with you.
If you do not receive a government benefit and your family is in need, you can write a letter outlining your situation and address it to the address listed above.
