TA wants to make a big thing of our Big Things
We've all passed them on the road, or pulled over to take a happy snap when the kids demanded to see one of these iconic big things. How many of them can you think of?
Well if you have seen the current issue of PORT DOUGLAS, visitors magazine pages 38 and 39, you'll already know about the ones in our local area from our friends Trish and Tracy who are scampering around Australia locating and detailing the other about 150 more scattered all over Australia.
The Big Things feature every part of Australian life no matter how bizarre but all of them are phenomenal in their own way and each one celebrates everything that is good about our great land. That's why Tourism Australia (TA) wants us to make a big thing of, well, our big things.
The national tourism body wants to put them all on the international map as part of its new global campaign, 'There's Nothing Like Australia'. Aussies have until midnight on May 12 to upload images and stories about their favourite place down under, at www.nothinglikeaustralia.com.
TA chief Andrew McEvoy says "Many of the "big" things have been posted on the site, but there's room for more".
"The bigs are such a great example of the Aussie sense of humour and ingenuity that it's impossible to imagine an Australian holiday map without them," he said.
"But it's up to Australians to put them there".
"There can't be too many family photo albums that don't have a shot of mum, dad and the kids lined up in front of the Big Banana, or the Big Pineapple. Now is the time for everyone to open those old albums and share these fantastic holiday fun times with the world.".
Editors Comments: Trish and Tracy are currently running around Australia trying to locate all the 'Big Things' to compile into a new guide being planned. According to our intrepid explorers there are way more than 150 but most of them don't appear in any tourism publications. In association with TnT, we here at Newsport will be putting that right as soon as we can.
