Mossman students to receive Youth Achievment awards

For the first time Mossman students will receive Cairns Regional Council Mayor’s Youth Achievement Awards Wednesday 26 May.

Mayor Val Schier said that the Awards were established in 1993 and are funded exclusively by donations from the region’s community and business organisations.
“To be eligible year 11 and 12 students should demonstrate sound academic achievement and be in genuine financial hardship,” Cr Schier said.

“Council is pleased to present these students with scholarships which will enable them to complete their final two years of high school.  Successful students will be inspired to continue to achieve high standards in the local community or the larger global arena".

“The awards are tailored to suit each student’s individual requirements with scholarships provided for school fees, uniforms, equipment or additional tutorial support,” she said.

This year an unprecedented 38 scholarships will be awarded, and for the first time, five to students from Mossman State High.  The Mossman students are Bradley Brown Year 11, Narissa Carey-White Year 12, Joshua Murray Year 11, Eden Trezise Year 11 and Zundara Welham Year 11
