Miss Carnivale 2010 candidate, Sophie Stevenson from LJ Hooker had a little help from her friends on Friday down at Calypso Cafe on the corner of Warner and Grant Streets when they turned Friday into Gourmet Pie day.

The Calypso Chef pulled all the stops out to create a whole selection of superb gourmet pies for Sophie, who by the way, is a self confessed Pie addict. Work colleagues, family and friends hustled down to the cafe to grab a pie from the pie man before Sophie could sample them all. Each pie cost $5 and every last cent was donated to this years Carnivale charity for Breast Cancer.  Sophie sold an incredible $800.00 worth of pies on the day!

The pre-ordered pies were a sell out so by the time we got down there they'd all been scoffed but Sophie assured us that she didn't eat them all, time will tell when she tries to fit back into her Miss Carnivale ball gown, she may regret that one Chicken Carbonara or Lemon Pepper Chicken w/ Sweet Potato and Feta Cheese pie too many....Only joking.

When we asked Sophie how the day had gone she said "I am thrilled that so many people supported my Pieday and that so much money was raised for the charity, thanks to my sponsors and friends for their support".

Editors Comments: Well done Sophie on such an innovative fund raiser. This years contest really has produced some great events.  For example this coming Wednesday 12th May another Miss Carnivale contestant, Danika is holding an auction in the Sunset Bar upstairs at the Court House Hotel starting at 6pm.  One of the lots for auction is a wheel barrow packed solid with alcohol and the prize apparently includes the wheel barrow.  Hey, if you drink all it's contents you'll need the wheel barrow for someone to push you home!  There are loads more lots for auction, including a man auction.  Personally that doesn't interest me, but I'm sure the ladies will find something to their taste.
